Most gun safe manufacturers use Palusol brand intumescent fire seals, also known as “expanding heat seals”. These seals are made from a hydrated sodium silicate material and are encapsulated in a rigid thermoplastic profile. When exposed to heat, the seal expands to help keep out heat and smoke.
